JIRA workflow for enterprise projects

JIRA is the center of our process — issue tracking, sprint planning, release management, incident management. Out-of-the-box configuration isn’t enough.

Custom issue types

Story, Bug, Task + Incident, Change Request, Technical Debt, Architecture Decision. Each type has its own workflow.

Development workflow

Open, In Progress, In Review, QA, Done. Transition rules: In Review requires a linked pull request. Done requires an approved review and passed QA.

Git integration

A commit message with PROJ-123 links the commit to the issue. PR status in JIRA. Branch name from JIRA with one click.

Dashboards and reporting

Sprint board, release dashboard, ops dashboard. Velocity chart, burndown, cumulative flow. Metrics at retrospectives.

Conclusion

JIRA requires an investment in proper configuration. Custom workflows, Git integration and dashboards ensure visibility for everyone.
